Angelina Jolie returns to the top of the Forbes’ highest paid actress list after a three year break since her last big-budget movie The Tourist.. The star is worth $33 million (£21.5 million) in 2013, partly thanks to her forthcoming film,Maleficent, Disney's take on Sleeping Beauty.

Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart followed in second and third positions, with respective earnings of $26 million (£16.9 million) and $22 million (£14.3 million). Stewart is thought to be still cashing in on her lucrative Twilight franchise, while Lawrence made her millions through the Hunger Games films and last year's Silver Linings Play book - for which she won an Oscar.

'Friends' star Jennifer Aniston came in fourth place with $20 million (£13 million), thanks to ongoing royalties from Friends and also her numerous advertising deals with companies such as Vitamin Water and Aveeno skincare. Emma Stone ranked next, at five, with $16 million (£10.4 million), having made her first summer blockbuster last year in The Amazing Spider-Man.
